The Story Behind the Orange Shirt Day Design

This design grows from the image of a tree, a symbol of memory, spirit, family, and connection to the land.

Within its branches are many hands. Some are clear and bright, while others softly fade upward, like spirits carried into the sky. Each hand honours a child impacted by residential schools, especially the children who never made it home.

Below the tree, two figures stand together and look up. They represent Survivors, families, and generations who continue to remember, grieve, heal, and speak the truth. The roots remind us that truth lives deep in the land, in families, and in communities.

Their stories live on in our hearts. We keep the truth visible so this history is never repeated.

Сreated for Orange Shirt Day, this design honours the children, the Survivors, their families, and the ongoing journey of Truth, Remembrance, and Healing.

We donate $5 from every shirt sold to organizations supporting residential school Survivors.

Shipping Notice for U.S. & Worldwide Orders

While most orders arrive within the estimated delivery window, shipments to the United States and other international destinations may occasionally require additional processing and transit time due to air transport and customs processing. These procedures are outside of our control and may result in delays.

Locally produced on Treaty 1 Territory

This piece was designed and produced locally on Treaty 1 Territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinabe (Ojibway), Ininew (Cree), Oji-Cree, Dene, and Dakota peoples, and the Homeland of the Red River Métis. Producing here allows us to support local artists and remain connected to community roots.

Designs with Meaning & Artist Support

Many of our apparel designs are created in-house by the INAC team. These original INAC designs are made to honour Indigenous identity, culture, resilience, and pride through meaningful artwork.

For select products featuring artwork by external artists — such as bags, wallets, notebooks, greeting cards, mugs, and other giftware — we source from licensed suppliers who work with the artists and pay royalties according to their agreements.

Whether created by INAC or sourced through licensed artist partnerships, each piece is chosen with respect for the artwork, the stories, and the people behind them.

Ethical and Limited Production

We produce in small batches using ethical practices. This ensures quality, reduces waste, and keeps each release unique.

Supports Indigenous Voices

Every purchase helps uplift Indigenous creators and community organizations. We collaborate with Indigenous artists and partners to bring authentic designs to life and ensure these voices are represented in fashion.

Special Campaign Designs

Special campaign designs — including Orange Shirt Day, Red Dress Day, Pink Shirt Day, and other awareness collections — may not be eligible for regular discounts or promotions, as a portion of proceeds supports related initiatives.

In special cases, INAC may choose to include select campaign items in a sale or promotion.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

I love the T-shirts. It’s OK that they’re last year’s design. They’re heading off to Sarnia Ontario and therefore my family and they love them.

Thank you so much! We’re happy to hear you love the T-shirts, and we hope your family in Sarnia enjoys them too.
